‘From Fava Beans to Quinoa, we live and breathe beans, pulses and grains… how could you not when they taste so good and they’re locally grown! ’

- Nick Saltmarsh, Josiah Meldrum and William Hudson, Founders of Hodmedod’s, Suffolk & Norfolk

Placing British grown centrefold in their pantry of beans, pulses, grains and so much more, Hodmedod’s have been on a mission since 2012 to reintroduce the UK to the amazing produce within touching distance of our kitchens. Heroing good, sustainable, local food, the team at Hodmedod’s collaborate with British farmers to revive the indigenous grains, beans and pulses we should be eating and applauding in our meals week in, week out.

All starting with a kitchen table, a pile of split fava beans and a postcard that simply asked what people thought of the great British bean. Distributed to local shops and community groups the feedback was unanimous, there was demand and serious desire for Great British beans to be back on our tables. So, what were the team to do but found a company that supported the plight of the humble, but delicious British bean… and as easy as that Hodmedod’s was born!

Now you may be asking yourself… What’s a Hodmedod? Well, a Hodmedod is simply an East Anglian dialect word for describing something round or curled up, like a hedgehog or a snail. Putting their heads together the founders of Hodmedod’s, Nick Saltmarsh, Josiah Meldrum and William Hudson, felt this immediately identified with what their company was all about: UK heritage, East Anglia and nature. And, we think they nailed it, effectively presenting the dedicated focus Hodmedod’s have on providing quality food from British farms that’s sustainably produced, and for that we applaud you!

So, onto present day and we find ourselves utterly addicted to their pantry of beans, grains and more! Growing week on week the team have already climbed mountains in bringing the great British public along their bean journey and this is proof of how delicious, tasty and versatile their range is, with repeat customers day by day.

A pantry full of products, Hodmedod’s wonderfully named product range includes Fava beans, Black Badger Carlin peas, Smoked Quinoa, Emma & Fava Bean pasta, Stoneground Spelt flour, and even flamingo peas (yes, there’s a pea with this name… we love it too!). So, whether it’s Winter or Summer these ingredients are great in salads with fresh herbs, making dips with for the weekly crisps & dips night, baking delicious breads or in warming stews for those colder days, and of course a great source of plant based protein!
